The answer to the question of when size matters is not simple. I am of course referring to the size of the photograph \ud83d\ude42 or more precisely, photographic plates for making collodion positives and negatives.
\nAfter almost four years of experience with wet collodion plates, I gradually moved to larger sizes. Currently (March 1, 2015) I am starting to work with sizes up to 24\u00d730 cm.<\/p>\n

The reason why I bought a format larger than 18\u00d724 cm is simple \u2013 I started working with negatives and for contact prints, which are 1:1, the size 24\u00d730 cm is already quite large.<\/p>\n

I originally started shooting collodion with a medium-format Hasselblad, which I still use occasionally for collodion. But once you get a taste of the size of a negative, it's hard to go back. That's why I prefer a larger format in my current work.<\/p>\n

Of course, with larger sizes, the costs of creating larger plates also increase. The area of a 6\u00d76 cm plate is 36 cm2, while for a 24\u00d730 cm format it is a respectable 720 cm2.<\/p>\n

I originally toyed with the idea of building a 25\u00d725\u2033 camera, i.e. 63.5 x 63.5 cm.
\nI try to focus more on the content than on the size. However, I read somewhere that in a larger size you can find something "extra" and it can enrich your inspiration for your next creation.
\nWhen I feel that my 24\u00d730 cm content would be interesting to have on a larger original board, I will boldly go for it.<\/p>\n

But for now, I'm staying grounded and focusing more on the content.
