I decided to explore this historic process, which relies on one of the most durable silver-based techniques. The process is called direct copying or Printing-out-paper (POP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jankratochvil.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/collodion-pop-jan-kratochvil-nude-test-trebic-kolodium-1.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/jankratochvil.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/collodion-pop-jan-kratochvil-nude-test-trebic-kolodium-1-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"collodion POP negative\" class=\"wp-image-10256\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For my test composition, I was inspired by an old postcard from 1903. I had to scan the photo in high resolution and then carefully edit it to get a suitable digital negative. In order to create an interesting composition, I used the environment of our garden and added a shot of the plants to the scene with a reclining model with a string instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/jankratochvil.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/collodion-pop-jan-kratochvil-nude-test-trebic-kolodium-5.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/jankratochvil.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/collodion-pop-jan-kratochvil-nude-test-trebic-kolodium-5-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"Collodion POP\" class=\"wp-image-10255\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After making several negatives and prints, I started analyzing the results. The third negative I will make will be closer to my idea. There are still some small details to be adjusted, but I believe that the photograph will be really interesting for a POP collodion print.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"960\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 720 \/ 960;\" width=\"720\" controls src=\"https:\/\/jankratochvil.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/collodion-pop-jan-kratochvil-nude-test-trebic-kolodium-4.mov\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Removing unexposed silver<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collodion POP printing impressed me with its durability and longevity. Unlike other silver-based photographic processes, the photo does not fade and the surface is reliably protected by a layer of collodion.
